The Lincoln County Mailing List (NVLINCOL) began in December 1999. It is an email discussion list open to anyone who has an interest in family history, genealogy, or local history in Lincoln County, Nevada, or any of its towns, mining camps, or other locales.

Mailing lists like NVLINCOL are basically lists of email addresses. When you subscribe, you add your email address to the list. Anyone subscribed can send an email message to the list in order to have all other subscribers automatically receive that message. It costs nothing to join this mailing list. The purpose is to provide a forum where people with a common interest can share ideas and information. You are free to ask questions about genealogical and historical research and resources in Lincoln County as well as post queries concerning Lincoln County families. Other subscribers may be able to provide answers or direct you to the resources you are looking for.

You can subscribe to NVLINCOL in list or digest mode. In list mode, individual messages from other subscribers posted to the mailing list will arrive in your email inbox as separate messages. In digest mode, the messages are grouped together and sent as a single message on a periodic basis. The volume of messages on a mailing list such as NVLINCOL is very light, but it can vary with periods of no activity to other times when several messages may be sent in the course of day. Messages posted on RootsWeb/Ancestry.com's Lincoln - Family History & Genealogy Message Board are gatewayed and posted to the NVLINCOL list. All messages posted to NVLINCOL are archived and searchable.

Search Tips: Searches are not case sensitive, e.g., the search Pioche or the search PIOCHE would retrieve the same messages. Boolean operators and, or, and not may be used, e.g., the search pioche and lincoln would retrieve messages which contain the words pioche and lincoln, although these words may not necessarily appear together. the search pioche or lincoln would retrieve messages which contain either the word pioche or the word lincoln. the search pioche not lincoln would retrieve messages which contain the word pioche but do not contain the word lincoln. Truncation is possible by adding an asterisk to the end or middle of a word to broaden a search, e.g., the search cemeter* would retrieve messages which contain the words cemeteries, cemetery, etc. Phrase searching is possible by enclosing search terms in quotation marks, e.g., the search "nevada state library" would retrieve messages which contain those three words appearing in consecutive order. Nesting of search terms is possible by enclosing search terms in parentheses, e.g., the search (pioche or lincoln) and smith would retrieve messages which contain either the word pioche or the word lincoln which also contain the word smith. Without parentheses Boolean operators execute from left to right.
