Information

The Eureka County Mailing List (NVEUREKA) began in February 2000. It is an email discussion list open to anyone who has an interest in family history, genealogy, or local history in Eureka County, Nevada, or any of its towns, mining camps, or other locales.

Mailing lists like NVEUREKA are basically lists of email addresses. When you subscribe, you add your email address to the list. Anyone subscribed can send an email message to the list in order to have all other subscribers automatically receive that message. It costs nothing to join this mailing list. The purpose is to provide a forum where people with a common interest can share ideas and information. You are free to ask questions about genealogical and historical research and resources in Eureka County as well as post queries concerning Eureka County families. Other subscribers may be able to provide answers or direct you to the resources you are looking for.

You can subscribe to NVEUREKA in list or digest mode. In list mode, individual messages from other subscribers posted to the mailing list will arrive in your email inbox as separate messages. In digest mode, the messages are grouped together and sent as a single message on a periodic basis. The volume of messages on a mailing list such as NVEUREKA is very light, but it can vary with periods of no activity to other times when several messages may be sent in the course of day. Messages posted on RootsWeb/Ancestry.com's Eureka - Family History & Genealogy Message Board are gatewayed and posted to the NVEUREKA list. All messages posted to NVEUREKA are archived and searchable.

Subscribe and Post Messages

To subscribe to NVEUREKA, send an email message to:

Related Lists

The Nevada Mailing List (NEVADA) began in September 1999. It is an email discussion list open to anyone who has an interest in family history, genealogy, or local history in Nevada.

To subscribe to NEVADA, send an email message to:

NEVADA-L-request@rootsweb.com

or for the digest:

NEVADA-D-request@rootsweb.com

You can post messages and unsubscribe from the NEVADA list following the pattern described above for the NVEUREKA list except that you would substitute NEVADA in place of NVEUREKA in the various addresses. Messages posted on RootsWeb/Ancestry.com's Nevada/Unknown - Family History & Genealogy Message Board are gatewayed and posted to the NEVADA list. List Archives

It is possible to search the list archives to find messages previously posted to the NVEUREKA or NEVADA mailing lists. Messages posted to each of these lists are permanently retained and are keyword searchable. You can use the links below to access the search forms.

Search Tips:

  • Searches are not case sensitive, e.g., the search Beowawe or the search BEOWAWE would retrieve the same messages.

  • Boolean operators and, or, and not may be used, e.g.,

    • the search beowawe and eureka would retrieve messages which contain the words beowawe and eureka, although these words may not necessarily appear together.
    • the search beowawe or eureka would retrieve messages which contain either the word beowawe or the word eureka.
    • the search beowawe not eureka would retrieve messages which contain the word beowawe but do not contain the word eureka.

  • Truncation is possible by adding an asterisk to the end or middle of a word to broaden a search, e.g., the search cemeter* would retrieve messages which contain the words cemeteries, cemetery, etc.

  • Phrase searching is possible by enclosing search terms in quotation marks, e.g., the search "nevada state library" would retrieve messages which contain those three words appearing in consecutive order.

  • Nesting of search terms is possible by enclosing search terms in parentheses, e.g., the search (beowawe or eureka) and smith would retrieve messages which contain either the word beowawe or the word eureka which also contain the word smith. Without parentheses Boolean operators execute from left to right.

It is also possible to browse the archives of the NVEUREKA or NEVADA mailing lists. Messages are grouped by the month they were originally posted via the websites listed below.
